Motion to Vote JM as the Best Delegation!
The Secondary Division’s Model United Nations club takes on yet another successful conference! On the 20th and 21st of January, twelve of our students participated in the 9th annual American Community School Lebanon Model United Nations. They blew away everyone’s minds as they debated such topics as cyber terrorism, the admission of Kosovo to the United Nations, the death penalty, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Acting as ambassadors for countries like Pakistan, Germany, Belgium, and India, the students argued their nation’s positions and heatedly debated the resolutions: yet another reason our students made the school proud!

The Secondary Students Embrace the Christmas Spirit
“Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” - Mother Teresa

The 22nd of December was a true testimony to the spirit and real meaning of Christmas: after the CE department presented an inspirational assembly, the First Secondary students were divided into six groups, each accompanied by two missionaries from Mission de Vie. With cleaning material in hand, they visited a total of nine homes of senior citizens stricken with poverty and living alone. However, it was not a grim matter, as everyone involved sang Christmas carols, shared stories, and, most importantly, prayed together.
The 3SE visited Martha and Mariam, a non-governmental organization centered in Ajaltoun, which aims to help prostitutes and physically violated women. The students watched a documentary and a filmed testimony, and ate together with the women living in the institute as they handed them shower gels, shampoos, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
The 3LS and GS made their way to Darbessama for a very special day as well: carrying food products such as oil, milk, and chocolate, they visited the homes of five patients who suffer from chronic diseases, and gave them a very special Christmas as they filled their houses with smiles and joy.

Although the Second Secondary students stayed in the division, their day was nonetheless equally eventful. The 2S Christmas Scavenger Hunt took place from 11:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. as the students were divided into four groups and participated in four phases: photo shooting, Christmas caroling in other divisions around the school, answering Christmas questions, and the collection of Christmas items.
This incredible day ended with presentations, inspiring stories, and even more caroling in the Ruby Theater with all classes present. Happy New Year!

3ind Sawt el Watan!
“One, two! One, two! One, two!” The vibrant voice echoed through the Jesus & Mary auditorium as the Secondary students, guided by First Lieutenant Bassil Lattouf, marched their way in behind the proud flag bearers. Four students from the two corners of the auditorium rappelled from the ceiling carrying the Lebanese flag and a banner on which متجزرين هون was printed in army camouflage colors. The phrase was also stamped on the cheek of everyone in the Secondary Division: students and staff alike. The military march left the spectators in awe. This performance was diligently prepared to pay tribute to the Lebanese Army – symbol of our unity on Flag Day on Friday, November 18, 2011.

On the other hand, and to emphasize the vital need for all Lebanese to remain متجزرين هون, the division received Bishop Camile Zeidan in the Ruby Theater, who spoke to the students, staff members and attending parents about the urgency of keeping, and not selling, our land. The figures and graphs he presented were poignant and the examples of depopulation he cited were indeed alarming. Food for thought and ACTION!

Who could have asked for a better way to celebrate Lebanon’s red, white and green?

Allo Allo Proves to be a Major Success - Again!
After gaining immediate success last year, the Secondary student production Allo Allo was performed on Sunday November 6, 2011, in the Ruby Theater. Under the direction of Mr. Tony Kahoush, and based on a BBC sitcom, the play takes in a small French café during World War II, and is filled with physical comedy, amusing accents, jokes and puns. The theater was packed as the First and Second Secondary students unmasked their seemingly hidden acting talents and made this production one of the most entertaining ones yet.

Look into My Eyes
On the 4th and 5th of November, 2011, the Second Secondary participated in a very special weekend, whose theme was Look into My Eyes. The weekend took place in Bon Pasteur, Ain Aar, and consisted of motivating workshops, life lessons, prayer, and togetherness. The students took off on Friday and launched the weekend with an opening prayer, after which they were presented with workshops the likes of Choices of a Young Woman, The Price Tag of Success, Axes of Love, and Masks, whose main idea revolved around the different disguises we wear in our everyday life. Teachers were also present to speak of their personal experiences and individual choices, wrapping up the 2S weekend in the most wonderful way.

Moreover, they appeared on both LBC and MTV, not to mention in the local newspaper, al Balad!

Informal Day - a Huge Success!
Things are starting out beautifully for the Secondary division this year, as it was decided that, for the first time, the Informal Day will take place outside of school, on Saturday October 22. Before taking off, the annual student council investiture took place in the Ruby Theater, where our beloved High King Arthur (Father Antoine Ghazal) sat with the Knights at the Round Table and designated them the new protectors of Camelot (the Secondary Division). After a touching word from Maria Beschir, the new Head Girl, students and teachers alike got on the buses for غابة الشهيد in Tabrieh. Organized especially to bring them together for a day of fun and interaction, the Informal Day consisted of a morning prayer for the young martyrs, after which we took a walk through the forest. Following brunch, teachers and students participated in team-building activities, including Human Sheep Herding! A magnificent day indeed!

The Secondary Division starts off with a bang! – Elections!
As is customary in the Secondary division, the time came for the students, teachers and staff to elect a new head girl. However, what made it extra special this year was that the elections were an exact simulation of the Lebanese Parliamentary Elections! With the help of the Social Sciences department, the process started two weeks ago with the candidates presenting their طلب ترشيح within the legally assigned delay; then the لوايح شطب were developed. On election day, each class had its own صندوق اقتراع, and the teachers and staff were assigned as رؤساء اقلام. Ex-JM students took part as مراقبين, and the Internal Security Officers were there to ensure the smooth running of the elections. The elections started at exactly 7:30 a.m. on Friday October 14, and the results came out at 12:30 p.m. Congratulations, Maria Beschir our new Head Girl, and Deputies Najat Fahd and Tracy Najjar! Congratulations, Secondary Division, الإنتخابات كانت نزيهة و حضارية! Thank you Mrs. Paula Hayek and Mrs. Pascale Bassil!

For a Cleaner Environment!
Founded in 2001, the nonprofit, nongovernmental organization INJAZ is dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial learning. This year, this educational organization decided to hold a competition aiming to help school students develop necessary entrepreneurship and workforce responsibility skills. The Secondary Division jumped right on board, and our Second Secondary students created their own company, called F.A.C.E (For a Cleaner Environment), constituting of twenty-one students. As part of the Injaz program, the school’s mission was to create and produce a product which facilitates people’s lives. The Jesus & Mary delegation fashioned the PORTABIN, a multi-purpose portable bin especially designed with sticky notes, a pencil sharpener, pocket tissues, and pocket wet wipes. With more than 123 countries participating, we are sure our students will make us proud!

Shadow Day
As the Second Secondary students approach the third term, it is inevitable that some grow confused concerning their choices for the Third Secondary and for their majors in university. On Tuesday, April 26 and Friday, April 29, Jesus and Mary School sent three students to three different places as part of the Shadow Day, a new program that allows them to learn more about the different career paths they wish to take. Lea Chlela (2SA) was sent to an orthodontist’s office, Sara Ferkh (2SB) to a pharmacy, and Lamia Kfuri (2SA) to the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel to learn about hotel management. When the students were asked about their experiences, the three agreed that it was altogether very educational: they learned a lot but had fun at the same time, and, indeed, it did make their choices much easier!

Farewell 3S!
It’s that time of the year again! May 6 brought both tears of joy and sadness as Jesus & Mary School said goodbye to our beloved Third Secondary students. With the parents invited to spend the day with their daughters, it started off with a mass dedicated to the students after the annual tradition of planting a tree in the name of their promotion. The Second Secondary were waiting with a large breakfast prepared in the cafeteria as parents, students, and teachers gathered to share a last meal together. Everyone then assembled in the Secondary hall where the Third Secondary said their final goodbyes with heartwarming presentations and speeches, before they grouped outside of the gate and drove away in a colorful and cheering convoy. We will miss you 3S!

Secondary Cultural Day!
The Secondary Division Cultural Day has again proved to be truly wonderful as it consisted of a blend of educational and enjoyable programs! On Friday April 19, parents and staff gathered in the Ruby theater to attend the defense of the incredible science projects that the students had been passionately working on. Meanwhile, the humanities and math projects, ranging from fractal geometry to Lebanese immigrants, were being presented and judged in front of a jury in the I Room. Following this was a court simulation in the Ruby Theater featuring the students, and as if that weren’t intriguing enough, the second secondary students created a French zajal! In short, a multisensory educational experience!

Welcome Back JM Sisters!
On February 22nd, our lovely JM Sisters, who had come back to pay a visit to Lebanon after many years, were invited to the Secondary staff room for afternoon tea and snacks with the teachers before the Saint Claudine Concert. Many of the teachers, especially those who had been JM students, recognized some of the Sisters immediately. It was a wonderful time brought together by the everlasting JM spirit throughout the past 45 years.
On the 24th, it was the students’ turn: a mass was held in the Secondary hall with all students and Sisters present, after which every Sister introduced herself and spoke about her time and experience with Jesus & Mary School. Although their stay was quite short, it was very memorable.

JM in Cyprus!
On February 11th, 12th, and 13th five MUN students from the Third Secondary attended and participated in the sixth annual Mediterranean Model United Nations in Nicosia, Cyprus. MEDI MUN was initiated by a group of ex-MUN students who were trained in The Hague, The Netherlands, and a large organizing team of about 70 students came together and worked to make MEDI MUN a resounding success. Our JM delegates, representing the countries of Armenia and Madagascar, negotiated, debated, and created resolutions dealing with serious global issues alongside some 200 students in the European University of Cyprus. Issues ranged from combating terrorist crimes, restricting logging permits in rainforest areas, to protecting cultural heritage from the ongoing threat of globalization. Apart from the conference, the delegates also learned about Cypriot history and culture as they were shown around the old streets of Nicosia.

2012… The End of the World
It all started in the Ruby Theater on October 23 2010… Informal Day 2010

The Investiture,
Lead by our Head Girl, Ms. Rosemary Taouk, the investiture ceremony was a blend of colors.
The Supreme Leader of the world a.k.a. Mr Tony Kahoush, interrupted our traditional Lebanese Breakfast, ordering all agents Generals, and Commanders in Chief to get to work and save the world.
The Australian ASIS, Indian RAW, Russian FSB, Chinese MSS, American CIA, British M1-6, to name but a few, sent their Generals and Commanders in Chief to the Amazon Rainforest with a dangerously investigative mission.
But no matter what they did the Supreme Leader of the World was dissatisfied. He knew Moles were among the agents… And the Mafia game began and ended with astonishing revelations.

After a long tiring week at school, what do students usually do???
Together we walked up Darbessama
On Friday May 14, with plenty of intentions in mind, 1S and 2S students walked up Darbessama to Our Lady of Lebanon’s Sanctuary in Harissa. The journey ended with a delicious dinner at Lakmouche Restaurant.

The Annual BIG BLUE Campaign
Are you wondering why the Nahr El Kaleb public beach was rated the cleanest in the area ??!!! Our students determinedly cleaned the shore on Sunday May 16th. All it required was masks, gloves, garbage bags (hundreds of them), and an admirable team spirit!

Walk with Al Younbouh…
That same Sunday another group of our enthusiastic secondary students participated in the Al Younbouh fund raising walk. They walked with the youth of Al Younbouh around the beautiful streets of old Jounieh. Young, old, children… they all flew the colorful balloons representing the logo of Al Younbouh in the skies of Jounieh.

April 30th, 2010: Our dearest Third Secondary Students’ last day of school…
A mixture of hilarious childhood memories, memorable experiences, and tearful goodbyes…
We started the day with a morning mass with parents, friends, and students followed by a buffet breakfast prepared by the 2S.
The last 3S assembly was next, 2 hours of laughter, loyal friendships, buried confessions, and gratitude.
It was the shortest of school days. Their days at JM are over and the rest is still unwritten…
So long, Farewell, Aufwiedersehn…I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
