Books as Bridges

Beirut is the 9th city to be nominated by UNESCO as the World Book Capital.
The Lebanese capital has been selected to be World Book capital 2009 because of its involvement in cultural diversity, dialogue, and tolerance and because of the variety and dynamic character of its program.

Books can be a wide forum where teenagers from different backgrounds are brought together to learn about the other, practice tolerance and dialogue and send a powerful message of collaboration for peace to the entire world.

At Jesus and Mary, we strongly believe that our young girls and boys can energetically use books as bridges to promote a culture of peace through reading, writing, reflecting, discussing, and acting. May we all--educators, parents, and teens--discover this year the possibilities and treasures hidden within the covers of books and contribute to dialogue and tolerance.
